FISH AND CHIPS WITH CARROTS, 2007, 33"x24" ,I love doing food related subjects. And I have a vast collection of little Styrofoam vegetables and fruits for embellishments. I couldn't resist the visual pun for the chips...they are gold leafed poker chips! World of Beauty Houston TX 2007 $900.00 USD |
CHECKMATES, 2003/07 , 51"x40" I returned to this quilt begun in 2003 because I was never satisfied with the composition. I added a bolder structure ( the arches) which made a big difference and I like it now! Juried into "PUZZLED AND BOARD" at New England Quilt Museum $1800.00 USD |
BLACK EYED SUSANS WITH FRUIT , 2007, 21.5"x24" Fiona Wright, A felting artist from Australia has visited me twice. The last time she brought me lovely copper enameled eyes she found in India. Had to make another Blackeyed Susan then! Juried into IN FULL BLOOM Houston 2007 , $550.00 USD SOLD |

LADY LUCK II, 2006. 22"x44". Shown at Considering Quilts, Harris House Florida; PIQF 2006 , NQA show 2007, and Pacific International Quilt Festival. I had fun quilting in symbols for luck and gambling. $1500.00 USD |
A VERY STINGY TOOTH FAIRY, 2007, 29"x31.5". I recently broke two front teeth! This tooth fairy only left a nickle for them....that leaves several thousand dollars to go before they are fixed! I had these perfect dental mirrors in ,my doodad stash sent to me by a cyberfriend who was also a dental tech. They made the quintessential corona for a tooth fairy! Best Of Show Lower Town Quilt Walk, Paducah 2007 $1100.00 USD SOLD |
GUINEA fOWL, 2007 , 40"x55" I finally used up some fabric from the hideous bridesmaid dresses I buy at thrift shops! These birds are a memory of a small flock that has the run of a supermarket parking lot in Myrtle Beach. A terrific marketing ploy, as we shopped there just to see the birds. I used the last of Fiona's eyeballs in this one. $2,480.00 USD |
I was awarded a brand new Janome 6600 sewing machine as a partner in the Janome Canada Art Partnership program. This is the very first quilt sewn entirely with my new machine. I LOVE it ( The machine I mean!) FOUR WOMEN LAUGHING LIKE HELL, 2007, 47"x35". I started this piece when I went to the Atlantic Center for the Arts in March where I had such a fun time with fellow artists. Not to mention a collegial exchange of art ideas and wine! $1,850.00 SOLD |

MARDI GRAS, 2007, 30"x20". When I read of a show called "Pearls and Swirls" I jumped at the chance to go OTT on decoration and embellishment. I had made a mask from cardboard, copper and old jewelry so with that in mind I sewed a Mardi Gras figure. $675.00 USD |

Just at the end of 2007, I had a Monty Python moment of " now for something completely different". I think I was fed up with a marathon migraine I had been having and also had a secret wish to go bananas with the machine quilting without worrying in the least about regularity, or all that quilt judgey stuff. These small works were whipped up in a few days and although they are not like my usual, I think they are the real me nonetheless! |
COFFEE BREAK, 2008, 36"x50", $2,000.00 This is the finished one which was inspired by a book on a favorite artists Eduard Vuillard. You can go here to see it's progression from start to finish. She is a lot calmer and restful than most of mine....maybe because she came hard on he heels of my completely different ones! At any rate, I had to give her SOME tension so I concocted a really messy hairdo. I am thinking she is resting from housework....or better yet, avoiding it altogether! |
I DO I DO I? 2008. SOLD This was fun. I have a cyber friend who is a very talented young author ( Joshilyn Jackson ) and is about to launch her third novel ...The Girl Who Stopped Swimming whose main character is an ARTQUILTER!!!! She has asked me to do a quilt for her based on an exerpt describing how the main character is making a wedding quilt to enter in PIQF. What a hoot, it could have been me. This character has a penchant for oddball quilting patterns and embellishments. For example, in her fictional quilt she included a tooth on the shoe and a little secret flap which opens to reveal an eye. Not to gross anyone out, but I followed these instructions and used a tooth I dremeled out of my hated temporary plate when I got my brand new implant replacements for my front teeth! More than you needed to know, I'm sure, but it all made this project a lot of fun and very personal for me. I cannibalized a wedding gown from the Sally Ann and bubblejetted the high button shoes. The headpiece and ribbon had to be removable as the quilt will travel to all of Joshilyn's book signings. Thank you Velcro! |
A VERY STINGY TOOTH FAIRY II, 2008, 57"X47", $3,075.00 Speaking of teeth. When I realized the full enormity of replacing my broken teeth with implants, I had to do another one of these....but BIG, and agressive, and over the top. Something like my dental bill! HaHa! |
HEADACHE, 2007 |
NICE CATCH!, 2007 |
HILDGARD'S VERITAS, 2007 18"X45", $1,300.00 I was so pleased to be asked by Larkin Van Horn to participate in her IT'S GOOD TO BE GREEN exhibition. I didn't want to do landscape or ecology so I looked up a mystic Medieval visionary who saw redemption in the beauty of God's creations. I love medieval art and this gave me the permission to use rich and decorative embellishments. |
